Saturday began with a strong NW that died down to a pesky medium westerly. If you got above 2000ft conditions were pretty good: getting there was tricky.

Lots of private gliders out, 737 and 383 flying Radstock, Didcot, 185 and EFF heading NW. Steve flew HZD and discovered a new place to land but Trevor and Darren soon had him home.

Rod rigged the Swales and gave me the pleasure of a flight – its true what they say about the clunks!

Thanks to Ken P for helping out with a trial lesson and a half day course and to Bob for finishing off the instructing.

Sunday – errr was a scrub, you were expecting something else???

Windy and Chilli (11 July 2015)

A very changeable day: there was a strong west wind of the sort that gives a tailwind no matter which end of the field you set up on and strangely one that didn’t increase with height much. It made for very broken thermals and getting away was a challenge. Certainly having got away you wanted to stay high.

I went for a cruise in the Nimbo GT and spied with my little eye something beginning with ‘nice farmer man or woman driving a big shiny combine harvester machine and making lovely impromptu airfields out of England’s green and pleasant land… ’ near Devizes.

After the flying fun we retired to the club house for the Chilli evening where I think I managed not to poison anyone and Tony P also brought along gorgeous salad from his allotment and Chocolate Brownies which went perfectly with Trevor’s fresh picked raspberries.

I cooked up a hot version this morning with the extras I’d bought.

Weekend 4th and 5th July

Well i think the following two pics from Phil’n’Chris in 383 taken on Sunday sum up the whole weekend. I won’t comment on who was flying when each was taken 😉

Sometimes it was like the left (or top), sometimes it was like the right (or bottom). It was mostly like the left (or top) when farthest from home…

Lots of soaring both days and instructional shenanigans.

Sunday 15th June

What a nice day’s flying we had today in defiance of the weather forecast! Soarable from first launch all through the day, Liz and Jim with help from Ken R keeping the two-seaters earning their keep. Lots of great progress from all those in training, all check flights passed in a highly satisfactory manner, and Tony is probably still grinning from his conversion to the K8 which was done in some style although we did take the mick when he didn’t quite hold off the landing and had a second go… Well done all
