New page

This TH400 was in the X / Skybrid winch from at least before 2004 through until April 2019. It had been rebuilt once or twice in this time. When faults developed in 2019, it was removed and sent to Newbury Transmission to be rebuilt. (In the meantime the Skybrid winch had a Chevy pattern TH400 installed for the summer season) Newbury Transmission found a couple of faults, including a crack in the valve section of the casing - they obtained a whole 2nd hand transmissionand stripped that for the casing. JH kept the remains and the short tailshaft and housing) The rebuilt Th400 was installed back into the Skybrid winch in August 2019. However, it occasionally showed problems with not changing up into top gear during the launch (happens around glider rotation speed, depending on wind speed). A new Governor and Vacuum modulator were obtained from Skylaunch to rule these out as the issue. The problem still persisted. Transmissionw as removed and rebuilt again in Winter 2019 and reinstalled. The same issue still there, so transmission removed again - a crack was found around a dowel hole - not the cause of the issue, but a nuisance. JH arranged with Newbury Transmissions that we'd use the rebuilt bits of this transmission with the casing of the TH400 removed from the Reserve winch (which did have the wrong length tailshaft) to build a new Hybrid TH400. The remains of both transmissions being kept as spares for now in the red container.
