GM TH400 automatic transmission
The secret of longevity:
Change oil and filter frequently
Flush cooler for time to time
Keep oil cool
When changing oil, disconnect engine end of top hose from oil cooler and run engine until oil stops draining, shut down engine and reconnect hose. When refilling use Dextron II ATF. Fill to top mark then run engine, keep alternately topping up and running engine until oil comes up to bottom mark. Oil level will gradually come up to top mark after engine has been stopped for some time.
Filter change requires removal of gearbox sump. Do not over torque gasket. Take care not to loose plastic pick up pipe which connects filter to gearbox. If used intensively recommend oil change every six months. Filter change once a year.
In event of failure take the unit to Newbury Auto Transmissions in Boundary Road
