Saturday 11March

It started off foggy but that didnt stop many many gliders from rigging (properly – being rigged), it was annual measuring day you see and they all had to be measured in various configurations with things up and down and left and right. Andy did a lot of measuring and found that everything that was measured measured as it should. Chris rigged his so he could wash the trailer, no I didn’t understand either.

Jim Gavin, on the other hand, went gliding, a late start but he rattled through the list in the afternoon.

A glimmer of hope

The airfield was still like pudding this morning so the ‘Really Useful Brigade’ set about clearing detritis left behind after Jonty had ‘disappeared’ a large fallen ash limb with his chainsaw. Could make a nice thermal generator when torched.

08-03

Ken H had his umpteenth attempt at breathing life into the clubhouse heater, fortunately with a little more success this time and then turned his attention once more to the auxilliary generator. I’m not sure if this is manic dedication, masochism, or pure bloody mindedness – but all much appreciated.

Anyhoo – the promised rain did not arrive and a fair wind blew, so by eventide there was a marked improvement to the ground. Forecast is for a couple of days of fresh breezes with little precipitation, so fingers crossed for a ‘dried out’ weekend.

Saturday 4th March

Well the call for an early start on Facebook and the text messages that were sent out ensued we got the first launch underway by 9:30. Thanks to everyone who made it happen!

Unfortunately the weather, a slight mechanical issue and the deteriorating condition of the airfield finally curtailed flying early in the afternoon but not before we racked up some 24 or so launches.

With 3 two seaters  and back seat help from Bob and Richard check flights and annual checks were the order of the day, from memory only one flight managed to break the cycle of circuits. Nick and I latched onto some scrappy lift and managed to take EUF up to 2,800ft (cloudbase)  during  a flight that lasted 36 mins, well done Nick!
